Saving The Congo Basin Forests

INCEF teamed up with the US Forest Service and AWF to create films that would specifically for rural populations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (90% illiteracy) to help villagers understand the laws and codes regulating their dwindling forest resources.

Dissemination impact results proved how not only important it is to these audiences to know the laws, but the relief they feel in knowing that these laws give them rights to use the forests in traditional ways as they always have.

During 53 days, six (06) educators traveled 641 Kms and visited 30 villages in the Maringa-Lopori-Wamba Landscape. They reached 10,385 rural villagers in a total population of 59,532 inhabitants.

Anecdotes helped evaluate the audience’s réaction:
We were confused and now we know how to map our forest – Young adults in Yetaota
  • Comprehension of messages:
Our knowledge has been increased.  We know we need to respect Zoning régulations – Male elders in Mpelenge
  • Attention paid to films messages:
Ignorance results in degrading our forests – Women in Yokembe

In the future INCEF's Impact Platform will bring more detail regarding dissemination and impact results.
