PRODUCTION
The production stage in all INCEF projects is guided by a rigorous assessment process. Although the production teams consult with a number of expert sources to understand how various issues play out on the national scene, it’s the focus on traveling to the communities to engage in direct discussions with the people on the ground that reveal what the important issues are, what points of view are most prevalent, what is known or not known, whose voices and stories resonate most powerfully and how can we make best use of all that is learned to make films that contribute to their ability and willingness to share experiences and debate how to resolve the critical issues.
After a period of analysis and the preparation of preliminary treatments for the films, the teams return to the communities for the actual production work. The films may be conceived in a variety of production styles but the emphasis is always placed on the actual stories and first-person testimonies we can recruit. The INCEF principle is to make the personalities and situations in each film entirely recognizable to audience members based on their own circumstances. The editing of the films continues to emphasize the first-person nature of the narratives. Narration from a third-party source, who is not also a featured person in the film, is rarely employed. All the elements in the story-telling - the music, for example - are sourced as close to the communities as possible. The principle of having production directly tied to the primary dissemination comes from the fact that the films are intended for use. They are produced to meet public awareness objectives that will drive change because viewers will understand the threats that face their communities and what they can do about them. |
