Reaching Salonga

February 28, 2011

On February 10, accompanied by colleagues from World Wildlife Fund, Executive Director Cynthia Moses and INCEF’s new Coordinator for Health Outreach, Nkenda (Ken) Badinga, flew deep into the largest tropical rainforest and the biggest national park on the African Continent – Salonga.

The population in and around Salonga is among the most remote and impoverished in Africa.  WWF began collaborating with INCEF in 2008 to disseminate films and motivate discussion about their work in the region concerning conservation of both the wildlife and the forest, health and development and with the CDC on disease prevention and raising healthier families. Working with teams who have been disseminating films from village to village since late 2009, Ken and Cynthia are planning the 2011 outreach and giving technical advice.   iPod touches are replacing DVD players in the Salonga work.

During the upcoming outreach, 6 educators will cover 74 villages.
